The EasyFlow current meter is built for rapid flow measurement in applications where traditional velocity-based gauging can be difficult, time-consuming, or impractical. The EasyFlow System is especially well suited for torrents, wild watercourses, and other turbulent channels where good mixing can be achieved. The system works by injecting a known quantity of salt upstream and measuring downstream conductivity over time to calculate flow by tracer dilution integration.

EasyFlow is intended for professional users who need a practical field instrument for occasional gauging without the complexity of larger multi-site recording systems. The instrument is supplied with a conductivity probe, 10 m cable, calibration doses, communication cable, and EasyViewer software for transferring data to a PC, reviewing the gauging curve, and correcting the flow calculation when needed.

Because it relies on salt dilution rather than point velocity measurement, EasyFlow can be a very effective solution in shallow, fast, and turbulent streams where conventional methods may be more difficult to deploy.   • The principle of the tracer dilution (or integration) method involves injecting a certain volume of tracer into the flow. Downstream, at a sufficient distance to ensure good mixing, the concentration of this tracer in the watercourse is measured. The flow rate is then obtained by integrating the concentration over time.

    Using this method, a single person can measure the flow of a watercourse in less than an hour, whereas an identical measurement using a reel would be much more tedious and would easily take 2 to 3 hours.

    Our EasyFlow device uses this method by dilution with cooking salt as a tracer. They are fitted with a probe that measures the conductivity of the water, which is linearly proportional to the concentration of salt dissolved in the water.

    Cooking salt has the advantage of being highly dilutable in water, non-polluting and absorbed very little by vegetation and riverbed materials. What's more, its low cost and ease of supply make it an ideal tracer.
