What is turbidity?

It is the measure of relative clarity of a liquid. It is an optical characteristic of water and is a measurement of the amount of light that is scattered by material in the water when a light is shined through the water sample. The higher the intensity of scattered light, the higher the turbidity. Material that causes water to be turbid include clay, silt, very tiny inorganic and organic matter, algae, dissolved colored organic compounds, and plankton and other microscopic organisms.

Applications

Track changes in water clarity at field sites, treatment facilities, and discharge points with recorded turbidity and temperature data.

Surface Water

Monitor turbidity in streams, rivers, lakes, and watersheds over time.

Groundwater

Record turbidity changes during well and groundwater monitoring.

Runoff & Discharge

Follow changing conditions at agricultural runoff and discharge sites.

Wastewater Treatment

Monitor turbidity trends in wastewater and treated effluent.

Aquaculture

Observe water clarity trends in aquatic growing environments.

Remediation & Leachate

Collect data to assess changing conditions at remediation and leachate sites.

Dredging

Monitor turbidity in surrounding water during dredging and sediment removal activities.

Integration & System Compatibility

The Seametrics TURBO turbidity sensor is designed for easy integration into existing monitoring systems. With standard digital communication protocols, it can be connected to SCADA systems, PLCs, and remote telemetry solutions for real-time data acquisition, alarm management, and process optimization.
