8” Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge
The TR255USW Rain Gauge is a freestanding receptacle for measuring precipitation through an opening at the top of the device, rain is collected and then funneled to a mechanical device, called a tipping bucket. As water is collected, the tipping bucket fills to the point that it tips over, causing a momentary closure of a switch to incrementally measure rainfall accumulation. This action empties the bucket in preparation for additional measurement. Water discharged by the tipping bucket passes out of the rain gauge with no need for emptying.
The TR-525USW is specifically designed to meet the National Weather Service's requirements for rainfall measurement.
What is a rain gauge?
A rain gauge is a meteorological device used to measure the amount of liquid precipitation over a specific time-period. It helps us quantify rainfall and provides valuable data for various purposes, including agriculture, weather monitoring, and hydrological analysis.
Stay informed and ready for the rain, one drop at a time. Rain gauges/Tipping Buckets can be connected directly to a data logger, PLC or SCADA. AWM Instruments offers a pulse to 4 - 20 mA converter for installations that require converting the rain gauge’s pulse output to analog 4 - 20 mA, additionally we offer data loggers, wireless telemetry for a continuous rainfall monitoring station.

260-RGAI-70 Rain Gauge Analog Interface
The 260-RGAI-70 Rain Gauge Interface converts the signal from a tipping bucket rain gauge into a 4-20 mA current loop signal, ideal for input to a PLC or SCADA system. Each tip of the rain gauge bucket causes the output signal to increase 1% of full scale. Full scale represents 100 tips of the bucket.
Heater Option
Should be used where snow or freezing weather may occur. It consists of two low-power heating elements that prevent disruption in readings during freezing times. The heaters are thermostatically controlled with an additional thermal overload. More information available under downloads tab.
NOTE: Heater options requires 120VAC Power Souce.
Bird Spikes
Bird Spikes fit onto the Tipping Barrel Rain Gauges to prevent birds from sitting on the edge. The spikes are made out of anodized aluminum and attach with a single philips screw. The spikes can be oriented straight up (as pictured) or bent by hand if a staggered orientation is desired.
Bird Spikes is a 30" long strip with holes every 2 inches. This works well for roofs and signs. The aluminum can be bent by hand and cut with tin snip.
