What is groundwater?
Groundwater is water that can be found under the Earth’s surface, in the ground. Some people think groundwater is like a large lake or river underground, but that isn’t the case. Groundwater is more like the liquid trapped in a sponge, or the liquid in a glass of ice water.
When permeable layers of rock, sand, or gravel store and transmit enough groundwater to provide usable quantities to wells, then the layers are called aquifers. The type of underground materials can influence how much water is stored, and how it moves into or flows through the ground.
Groundwater & Well Monitoring
Measure and record groundwater levels, temperature and conductivity in monitoring wells. Explore our instruments and data collection options for aquifers studies, pumping test and long-term monitoring.
Long-term monitoring using a submersible pressure transducer
Conceptual installation. Configuration varies by site and instrument.
Water Level & Temperature
Track changes over time.
Conductivity
Follow changes in groundwater conditions.
Data Logging & Telemetry
Collect data on site or remotely.
Groundwater & Well Monitoring Equipment
Explore manual water level meters, non-contact monitors, submersible sensors, and data loggers.
Geotech ET & ETL
A portable tape water level sounder for manually measuring depth to water in wells. Lower the probe until an audible signal and indicator light confirm water contact, then read the depth from the marked tape.

Ravensgate Model 300
A portable, non-contact water level meter that uses sound waves to measure depth to water in wells. It sends an acoustic signal down the well and calculates the distance from the returning echo, without lowering a probe or tape into the water.

Eno Scientific Well Watch 670
A permanently installed, non-contact water level monitor that uses sound waves to measure depth to water in wells. It mounts at the wellhead and automatically records water level changes, drawdown, and recovery with its built-in data logger.

Seametrics PS9800
A submersible pressure transmitter that measures water level by sensing the pressure of the water above it. Installed below the water surface in a well, it sends a continuous 4–20 mA signal to a connected data logger, display, or telemetry system.

Seametrics LevelSCOUT 2X
A battery-powered, submersible data logger that records water level and temperature at programmed intervals. Installed below the water surface in a well, it stores readings internally for later download. Its absolute pressure sensor requires barometric compensation for accurate water level measurements.

Seametrics CT2X
A submersible conductivity and temperature sensor with built-in data logging. It measures water’s ability to conduct electricity to help track changes in dissolved salts, storing readings for later download. An optional pressure sensor adds water level measurement.
View ProductGroundwater Sampling & Well Purging
Collect groundwater samples, filter samples for analysis, and remove standing water from monitoring wells.
QuickFilter 0.45 Micron
A disposable groundwater sample filter with a 0.45-micron membrane for preparing samples for dissolved metals analysis. Its included interface tube connects to a compatible bailer, allowing water to pass through the filter into a sample container.

SinkFast® Disposable Bailer
A disposable sampling container lowered into a monitoring well to collect groundwater for analysis. Its weighted design helps it sink quickly, while its one-liter capacity provides a practical option for manual sample collection.

Geotech 12V Purging Pumps
A submersible electric pump used to remove standing water from monitoring wells before sampling. Powered by an external 12V DC source, it moves water to the surface through discharge tubing. Multiple pump configurations are available to suit different pumping depths.
